Flush with success

At your convenience - the Look Out has award-winning toilets
The Look Out Discovery Centre in Bracknell has won a national award and a five star rating in the Loo of The Year Award – the 2009 search to find the best ‘away from home’ facilities in the UK.
The team at The Look Out was commended by judges for the overall cleanliness and high levels of hygiene in the loos.
The loos were awarded a five-star rating in the individual entry category and won a national category award for England, a new leisure category for water and themed parks.
Nationally, 1,548 entries received an unannounced visit from an authorised Loo of the Year Awards inspector and were assessed against more than 100 criteria – including signage and décor, fixtures and fittings and overall standards of cleanliness and management.
Cllr Iain McCracken, executive member for culture, said: “This is tremendous news; once again The Look Out has won this award making it 15 years (1994-2009) in a row. Not many attractions can boast a five star award for their toilets.
“When you consider that the facilities were judged both independently and anonymously and that The Look Out has more than 250,000 visitors to the centre every year, you realise what an achievement this is.
“Durga and Isabella, The Look Out cleaners, are valued and important members of The Look Out staff. The Look Out thoroughly deserves this award – well done.”
The Look Out Discovery Centre is open daily from 10am – 5pm. As well as the 80 hands-on science and nature exhibits, there is a children’s adventure play area, free car parking, gift shop and coffee shop. Based in 2,600 acres of Crown Estate woodland, there is plenty of space for walks, cycling and orienteering.
